Chicago Bulls star Luol Deng has been granted clearance to play for Great Britain this summer, as they prepare to head to Lithuania to compete in their second consecutive Eurobasket.

With his insurance issues having been resolved, he took to twitter to announce the news this afternoon

“Just got all clear to play for Team GB – great news! Ready to join the team & play in my first Eurobasket.”

Talking through the official Luol Deng Foundation website he said:

“Playing for GB is always important to me so I’m really glad we could resolve this. It has been a long process but a great team effort. I can’t wait to join the team and prepare for Lithuania.”

British Basketball’s Performance Director, Chris Spice is also understandably pleased:

“It is great for basketball in Britain that Luol has signed up for our programme again this summer. He has always been a great supporter of the GB basketball programme and we are excited to have him on the court again this year after he played such a key role for us in qualifying last year.

“With Olympic tickets sold out it is fantastic that the British public will get to see Luol play.”

The article goes on to state that Luol will not join the team until the basketball Olympic test event, as he attends his summer camp in Loughborough.

With one NBA player cleared, the GB team will now be awaiting word on Ben Gordon’s situation, which is expected to be announced by the end of this week.

We will update you as further news breaks.
