The English Universities side began the defence of their BUCS Basketball Home Nations Tournament title yesterday with an 88-75 victory over the Scottish Universities team.
England took an early 12-0 lead but the Scots came back to narrow the gap to 31-37 at half-time before a further England third quarter run took them clear. England ran their bench in the fourth quarter.
England were led by Karolis Petkus’ 18 points, Paul Nelson had 15, Armand Anebo 13, Kevin Bulger 12 and Dave Ajumobi and Paul Elderkin had 12 points a piece.
In the other matchup of the day, Northern Ireland got the better of Wales 109-80 in a high tempo game.
