Head Coach Steve Bucknall has cut the England Under 18 squad to 19 players after their recent half term training camp in Birmingham.
Bucknall was pleased with how the camp went as he continues to work through the selection process for the team to go to the Europeans this summer. He commented:
“The camp provided the coaching staff with another opportunity to familiarise ourselves with the players available. It also gave the players a chance to understand our coaching philosophies and team tactics.
Overall the players all showed the right attitude at each session and as a group they noted that effort and teamwork will be required as a minimum by every squad member. The team components are the building blocks from which our preparation for the European championships will begin. Lastly, we the coaching staff are continuing to build the foundations of a team and therefore we are still evaluating players within our squad for the final selection in July 2011.”
The squad is as follows:
Coach Bucknall also has named a 12 man squad for the Cherbourg Tournament in April. The roster, picked from the above squad is as follows:
It was bad news for Matthew Don, Bradley Fisher, Niel Gillard, Rowell Graham, Jamal Smikle, Nick Spires, Christopher Tawiah, and Skyler White who were all released. Of those, Bradley Fisher and Nicholas Spires are yet to attend any part of the England programme, whilst Skyler White is rumoured to be ineligible to play for England.
