British Basketball is urging the public to get behind them as FIBA’s impending decision on whether or not Team GB will get a place at the London 2012 Olympics fast approaches.

The ‘Say Yes’ campaign will tour a giant basketball jersey across the country in an attempt to raise awareness and gather support for the Standard Life GB team who have yet to find out whether they have secured their host nation spot-a decision that will be made by FIBA on March 13th in Lyon, France.

The campaign coincides with NBA basketball week, a joint initiative between the NBA, British Basketball, the BBL and England Basketball to promote the sport in this country with a series of grassroots events up and down the UK in the run up to the first ever NBA regular season games to be held in Europe next week in London.

Federation Chairman of British Basketball, Bill McInnes, commented on the ‘Say Yes’ activity:

“FIBA is well aware of the recent outstanding performances of our GB teams, and also the commitment of everyone in our federations to the future growth of the game in Britain. However I think this campaign is an excellent opportunity for individuals across the country to show how much they want GB basketball teams to be part of the London Olympics next year.”

British Basketball is asking the public at NBA activity in Newcastle, Manchester and London to sign the giant jersey as a show of support for their place at London 2012. The jersey makes its first appearance in Newcastle at the Baltic Square on Sunday 27 February where three Newcastle Eagles players as well as Standard Life GB player, Sarah McKay will be in attendance.

The giant jersey will move onto Manchester the following day and will then visit London’s Covent Garden where more Standard Life GB players will come and sign the jersey. There will be additional activity across London following NBA Basketball week.
