Big Night for Brits, NCAA Recap

It was a big night for Brits in NCAA Division 1 action last night, led by three GB U23s, Justin Robinson, Matthew Bryan-Amaning and Ashley Hamilton.

Justin Robinson scored a career-high 31 points, busting out of a shooting slump in spectacular fashion as Rider defeated Delaware 95-86 on Saturday. Robinson went 6/7 from deep (6/13 overall) and 13/14 at the line, whilst grabbing 1 rebound, dishing 5 assists and getting 1 steal. “I’ve been struggling with my shot but today my teammates found me at some good spots to shoot from,” said Robinson, who now has 1,427 career points, 11th most ever at Rider. “Mike (Ringgold) and Danny (Stewart) were playing well inside so that allowed me to get some shots”. Tom Pereira registered a DNP.

Arizona got a wild 87-86 win over Washington, despite a another big game from Matthew Bryan-Amaning. Bryan-Amaning had 24 points on 12/19 shooting (18 in the second half), whilst adding 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and a school-record tying 7 blocks. Huskies coach Lorenzo Romar said it was the best he’s seen Bryan-Amaning in the 6-foot-9 forward’s 127-game career.

Portland State beat Loyola Marymount 84-75 in a battle of Brits, that saw Ashley Hamilton get the better of the individual matchup but unable to get the W. Hamilton, returning to the court after sickness, finished with 18 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in 26 minutes on 8/11 shooting (2/3 at the line) for his best game of the season. Paul Guede finished with 1 assist in 8 minutes, going 0/2 from the field to remain scoreless.

Ovie Soko had a double-double to lead Alabama-Birmingham to a 63-58 win over Central Florida. Soko finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 1 block in 34 minutes, going 4/6 from the field and 5/9 at the line.

Loyola (Md.) defeated Towson 75-57. Shane Walker had 14 points, 5 rebounds and 1 block in 24 minutes, going 5/10 from the field and 3/3 at the line.

Northwestern got past Indiana 70-64. Alex Marcotullio had 11 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 1 block in 31 minutes, shooting 4/7 from the field and 1/2 at the line for one of his stronger games on the season.

Manhattan got a 64-63 overtime win over Stony Brook. Danny Carter had 6 points, 8 rebounds and 1 steal in 26 minutes, going 3/7 from the field.

College of Charleston got an 85-70 victory over Vermont. Andrew Lawrence played 24 minutes, going 2/3 from range for 6 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist.

Robert Morris got a 62-60 win over Monmouth (N.J.). Phil Wait went 2/3 from the field and 2/6 at the line for 6 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block in 15 minutes. Daniel James registered a DNP.

Quinnipiac held on Saturday for a 68-67 victory over Central Connecticut State, its fourth in a row. Raheem May-Thompson finished with an empty statline in 3 minutes. Devan Bailey had 2 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist in 25 minutes for CCSU, going 0/1 from the field and 2/2 at the line.

Siena beat Maine 71-60. Alasdair Fraser had 2 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal in 18 minutes, going 1/3 from the field.

Marquette got a 73-64 win over Seton Hall. Aaron Geramipoor played 9 minutes, going 1/2 from the field for 2 points, 3 rebounds and 1 steal.

Marist defeated New Hampshire 58-49, snapping an 11-game losing streak. Menelik Watson had 3 points and 2 rebounds in 12 minutes going 1/2 from the field and 1/2 at the line.

Georgia Southern got a 65-53 win over The Citadel . Morakinyo Williams returned to the action, playing 10 minutes to finish with 2 points and 2 rebounds on 1/3 shooting.

South Carolina State snapped a seven-game losing streak to North Carolina A&T with a 71-57. Joe Ikhinmwin played 10 minutes, going 0/1 to remain scoreless whilst grabbing 3 rebounds and dishing 1 assist.

St. Francis (N.Y.) overcome a late deficit to beat Wagner 77-73. Richard Clark registered a DNP for St. Francis, whilst Clayfell Harris got a rare start for Wagner, playing 5 minutes, going 1/1 for 2 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist.

Massachusetts got a 66-60 come-from-behind win over Rhode Island. Ben Eaves had 1 rebound in 3 minutes, going 0/1 from the floor to remain scoreless.

St. Francis (Pa.) ended a six-game losing streak with a 77-65 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson. Sam Fernley played 1 minute, finishing with an empty statline.

Cincinnati Bearcats beat the Providence Friars in overtime 93-81. Lee Goldsbrough played 1 minute finishing with an empty statline.

Nevada got a 74-63 victory over UC Irvine. Patrick Nyeko played 8 minutes, finishing with 2 turnovers.

Appalachian State got an 82-81 victory over High Point. Ryan Kilmartin registered a DNP.

Tulsa got past SMU 74-66. Myles Luttman registered a DNP.

Oral Roberts got a 79-63 win over Pacific. Mikey Manghum registered a DNP.

Florida Gulf Coast defeated Campbell 47-39. Larry Awosanya registered a DNP.

Davidson defeated Presbyterian 71-65. Ben Allison registered a DNP.

Xavier got past Fordham 79-72. Fahro Alihodzic registered a DNP.
