MENSAH BONSU WAIVED BY HORNETS

Great Britain forward Pops Mensah Bonsu’s hopes of a prolonged stint in the NBA have been shattered again after he was released by the New Orleans Hornets.

Mensah Bonsu had spent the last month on the Hornets inactive list, undergoing elbow surgery after a freak collision in practice.

He was cleared to return last week but has instead found himself out of the NBA once again following previous stints with Dallas, Toronto, San Antonio and Houston.

The Londoner failed to break into New Orleans’ regular rotation this season, appearing in just seven games, scoring 2 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in a total of 35 minutes of action.

Originally signed in September following a curtailed stint at Spain’s Caja Laboral, Mensah-Bonsu came through training camp after playing in all eight pre-season games for the Hornets, averaging 5.0 rebounds and 4.6 points in 15.4 minutes.

Non-guaranteed NBA contracts automatically become guaranteed for the remainder of the campaign on January 10 but a player has to clear waivers by that point. Wednesday is the last day a player can be let go and clear waivers by that deadline.
