FAB CONFIRMS NEWCASTLE RETURN

Fab Flournoy has ended speculation about his future by insisting he’s staying at Newcastle Eagles.

The New Yorker had been linked with a possible move to the Toronto Raptors after spending time in an informal role with the NBA champions during their playoff run and at summer league in Las Vegas.

With ex-Manchester Giants forward Phil Handy creating a vacancy with his switch to the LA Lakers as an assistant coach, Flournoy was thought to be in the running to land a role with the Raptors.

However despite his close relationship with their head coach Nick Nurse, he has confirmed he will be back on Tyneside as the Eagles coach and it is business as usual with recruitment.

“It’s still too early to talk about players coming in but the work is ongoing behind the scenes,” Flournoy told the club’s website.

“We’re getting closer to finalising one or two things but nothing is concrete.”

Flournoy, now 46, would remain as the BBL’s oldest active player if he continues on the court with a league source indicating no firm decision has been made on whether he will give up his dual role and solely serve as coach.
