Myerscough College completed a treble with a 71-57 win over East London All Stars in the Division 3 Playoff Final on Saturday evening at the NBPC in Manchester.

Rayon Brown took home the MVP award after a 19 point, 11 rebound double-double, as Myerscough added the title to their National Shield and League wins for a dominant 2017-18 season.

Despite being without big man Edoardo Del Cadia due to injury, Brown’s contributions more than made up for his absence, whilst Mate Okros added 17 points and David Walsh 13.

“It’s amazing to win with such a young team against seniors, it’s a great achievement for us and a great achievement for the academy,” Brown said.

Myerscough broke the game open in the third quarter, and cruised the rest of the way, clamping down defensively on East London.

“Massive effort from these guys,” Myerscough Head Coach Neal Hopkins commented. “It was a deserved success. Huge performance from Rayon Brown, we’ve had a great season, I’m really proud of these guys. It feels great.

“We did a great job defensively, really limited East London’s looks. Pushed it in transition, made runs at the right time and finished deserved winners.”

Arif Sempala had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead East London, with Seun Bashua-Olaofe joining him in double figures with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

“I think Myerscough played really well,” East London Head Coach Joshua Tackie commented. “We’re disappointed with the way we played, I don’t think we played as well we have been to get here. We reverted to a few things that hurt us earlier in the season, but it’s going to be something that we have to learn from; sticking to what got us here and playing as a group.”

Box score.
