Warm tributes have been paid to an EBL player who collapsed and died during a training session, leaving his team-mates and club in shock.
Nana Jumah, a forward with Division 4 side Doncaster Danum Eagles, is understood to have been practicing a warm-up drill on Tuesday evening at a regular session when, according to officials, he fell down to the court.
Although coaches and paramedics came to his aid, the 28-year-old was pronounced dead.
In a statement, the Eagles said: “Nana, 6 foot 7 in stature, was a big man with a big smile. Friends that were closest to him have been reaching out with messages of shock and sadness at the sudden loss of a popular young man who was widely known across the basketball community.
“He enjoyed basketball more than anything else and had played in the Doncaster local league for ten years. He recently decided to join the Doncaster Danum Eagles and was happy to be playing alongside some of his best friends who have all remarked that they had never seen him happier.
“All at the club are absolutely devastated by the tragic loss of such a well-loved young man who will be greatly missed by all that knew him.â€
Saturday’s match against Shropshire has been postponed.
It is expected that a post-mortem will be undertaken to ascertain what caused his untimely death.
