NBA London Tickets Sell Out in Record Time

Tickets for NBA Global Games London 2014 featuring the Atlanta Hawks vs. the Brooklyn Nets has sold out in record time, marking the NBA’s fastest ever sell-out in the UK.

Tickets went on public sale at 9am on 1 Nov. and sold out in a matter of hours.

The game, which will be played at The O2 on Thursday 16 Jan. next year, is the fourth NBA regular-season game – all sell outs – to be played in London since 2011.

It comes after a shaky debut for the league in Manchester for a pre-season game between Oklahama City Thunder and Philadelphia 76ers last month, which saw a number of empty seats in the stands.

“Firstly, we want to thank our fans. Selling out so quickly is testament to the popularity of our players and teams and is further evidence of the ever growing appetite for the NBA in the UK,” said Benjamin Morel, NBA Senior Vice President, Europe. “With some of the best players in the world taking to the court and a range of additional fan activities planned, fans can look forward to the full 360° NBA experience right here in London.”

NBA Global Games London 2014 marks the eighth consecutive sellout NBA contest at The O2, dating back to 2007, including preseason and regular-season games.

Matthieu Van Veen, senior vice president of AEG Sports Europe added: “I am delighted that the game has sold out in record time. Not only does it highlight the immense interest for NBA basketball in the UK, but it also once again demonstrates that The O2 is one of the globe’s top sporting venues. AEG’s successful partnership with the NBA is allowing thousands of fans worldwide to get closer to the game every season.”

“We look forward to bringing Atlanta basketball to London when we host the Nets at The O2,” said Atlanta Hawks forward/center and two-time NBA All-Star Al Horford. “It is great news that the game has sold out so quickly. We truly appreciate the support of the fans and look forward to an exciting game in January.”

If you missed out, follow @NBAUK and NBA UK on Facebook as a limited number of tickets may become available through releases closer to the game.

The full 2013-14 NBA Global Games schedule includes a total of 12 NBA teams playing 10 regular season and preseason games in eight cities in six countries and territories. This will be the most NBA teams to play internationally in a single season in the history of the league.
