England U16s Take 6th After Loss to Czech Republic

England Under-16s finished in sixth place at the 2013 Division B European Championships, after suffering a 72-58 loss to Czech Republic on Sunday.

A 14-0 start to the second half by the Czechs gave them the cushion they needed and killed any chances that England had of overturning a five point half-time deficit.

“Very proud of the Under-16 Men,” tweeted Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas after the game. “Our players represented England with pride & hard work. A great summer that I will always remember.”

Josh Steel had his third consecutive double double, with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and was the only player in double digits for England. Carl Wheatle and Aidan Gastaldi-Davies added 9 points each.

England finished the tournament with a 5-3 record after last summer saw them get demoted from Division A with 1 win in 9 games.

Box score.
