England U18s’ Quarter Final Hopes Dashed with Loss to Latvia

The England Under-18s can finish no higher than 9th in their first ever Division A European Championships after suffering a 68-56 loss to hosts Latvia on Wednesday afternoon.

The loss means head coach Steve Bucknall’s side go into the classification round starting on Friday, where the fight begins to avoid relegation – they will be looking to finish no further down the table than 12th, with the 13th-16th place finishers being relegated to Division B.

Despite trailing by 18 points heading into the fourth quarter, an early run saw them reduce the deficit to 6 points with six minutes to play but from there they were unable to get over the hump as Latvia rode the home crowd to the victory.

Luke Nelson led England with 19 points, with Tyrell Isaacs and Jules Dang Akodo adding 10 points each to join him in double figures.

Box score.
