Great Britain Under-20s moved to 4-0 in warm-ups with a 77-63 win over Finland on Wednesday evening in Helsinki.
It was an easier victory than in Game 1, where overtime was required, as they led by as many as 16+ points on their way to their second straight win in as many nights.
“The coaching staff of James Vear and Rikki Broadmore put together a great scout and to the players credit they were able to implement it on the court,” commented Head Coach Doug Leichner after the game. “Finland is a high level 3 point shooting team and we did a better job of defending the arc. These two games were great preparation as we played in a foreign country with active fans. We must continue to progress and move on to the next challenge versus Portugal.”
Devon van Oostrum led GB with 21 points, Rowell Graham had his second consecutive double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, whilst Matthew Don had 12 points and 10 rebounds; his second straight game with double digit rebounds. Joe Hart added 9 points.
“Another good team win tonight 77-63 against Finland,’ tweeted Assistant Coach James Vear after the game. “We did a much better job defending the 3 in this game onto Portugal tomorrow.”
Leichner’s side will now travel to Portugal for two games before returning home next week to face Holland twice in Ipswich on Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd July.
