SULLIVAN PHILLIPS UPSET AT GB EXIT

Sullivan Phillips has admitted he is distraught after a bureaucracy bungle ended his hopes of playing basketball for Great Britain at the Olympic Games.

The 31-year-old was pulled out of the squad last week after embarrassed British Basketball officials were informed that he had made an appearance for his native Bermuda in a competitive international, rendering him ineligible under FIBA rules.

And Sullivan will now nurse his wounds at home rather than reporting to the GB team’s training camp in Houston on Thursday.

“Truth is it sucks, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and it won’t happen, so the reality of it all sucks,” Phillips told The Gazette.

“It affects you only a much as you allow it, and for the first couple of days I was extremely pissed off, felt robbed, was down and didn’t want to believe I wouldn’t have the opportunity.

“Presently I’m just understanding that it wasn’t meant to be and when one door closes another opens.”
