English Universities Roster Released
Head coach Mark Steutel has released the English Universities roster that will be attempting to defend their title at the 2012 BUCS Home Nations tournament next week in Nottingham.
2012 BUCS runners up Durham, along with Trophy champions Loughborough are the most well represented, with Durham’s Kevin Wollbrick, Christopher Pearce, and Fred Hinnenkamp and Loughborough’s John Stewart, Jamell Anderson and Damian Cope all getting the nod.
Brunel’s Louis Sayers is the only player representing from the Premier South, perhaps indicative in the gulf of competition between the two divisions this year.
Steutel is looking forward to playing an up-tempo style of basketball at the tournament:
“This year’s English Universities teams brings together an exciting group of players who have all had successful seasons with their respective clubs/institutions. The coaching staff are very much looking forward to the up-tempo brand of basketball that this group will put on the floor together next week. I personally am very happy with the commitment that the players have shown in wanting to represent their country as some have had to really balance this with their existing club requirements. We will be competing at our highest level to try and continue England’s strong showing at the BUCS home nations over previous years.”
