NCCA: LAWRENCE IN LATE FLURRY

GB guard Andrew Lawrence produced a Reggie Miller-like performance against Chattanooga, dropping seven points in 14 seconds to send the game into overtime.

The 6-2 guard banked in a tough floater and hit an off-balance three on consecutive possessions before driving the length of the court to tie the game on a layup with 1.2 seconds remaining.

The Cougars went on to win 87-85 behind a career-high 25 points, five assists and four steals from Lawrence. The junior from London made five threes and shot 8-19 overall.

Lawrence also had a good game earlier in the week, contributing 14 points, seven assists, five rebounds and a career-high five steals as Charleston defeated The Citadel.

Alasdair Fraser also recorded a career-high this week with 23 points and 10 rebounds in an overtime win over Rhode Island. Fraser had an extremely efficient game offensively, making 11 of his 15 shots.

Ben Mockford continues to pour in the points, scoring 19 in a win over Mount St Mary’s. Mockford hit five threes in that game and two in a loss to Wagner, giving him 22 triples on the season, more than any other British player. He’s knocking them down at a solid 37% rate.

Shane Walker’s Loyola Maryland team improved to 7-1 as they won their first two conference games this week. Walker had 11 points and five rebounds against Marist, and 10 & 9 against Siena. He’s scored in double figures in every game this season.

Will Neighbour had 10 points and five rebounds in a loss to Northwestern State, which earned him a starting spot in the following game against SMU. Neighbour played a career-high 38 minutes in that contest, and had 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocks, but also turned the ball over six times.

Alex Marcotullio, who was tipped to start for Northwestern at the beginning on the season, appears to have settled back into the sixth man role he occupied last year. Marcotullio played 20-25 minutes in each of NU’s three games this week. He had seven points against Georgia Tech, eight points and seven assists against Mississippi Valley State, and three points and three assists in a heavy loss to Baylor.

Ovie Soko’s UAB team slipped to 1-5 after two more losses this week. Soko had eight points and five rebounds against South Alabama, and went scoreless with four rebounds and four turnovers against Kent State.

Grant Fiorentinos and Lee Goldsbrough began the season as starters for their respective teams, but have been relegated to the bench and have seen their minutes drastically cut in recent games. Adam Thoseby and Nick Mabbutt are also seeing less court time. With most teams beginning conference play now or in the next few weeks, minutes for younger players on the fringes of their teams’ rotations will become increasingly hard to come by.
