Great Britain got their summer campaign off to a winning start with a 96-70 rout of Netherlands in Cobham, Surrey, on Sunday night.
The game was a chance for head coach Chris Finch to see his team in competitive action and he was pleased with the performance:
“We’ve done a much better job of coming into camp in good shape this year, that showed today in comparison to last year.
“It was our first game so we didn’t have a lot of expectations, we’re just trying to figure out what the guys can do and help them. We have to get better at everything, but it’s early and I’m pleased with how we played.
“We had a pretty young team; they played fearlessly and with a lot of energy. We will have quite a few cuts to make so it was important to spread the minutes out, our agenda is to assess the guys and see what they can do.”
All 14 players on the roster saw at least 10 minutes of action as Finch looks to make further cuts to his team in the final weeks.
Ryan Richards led the scoring with 16 points on 6/8 shooting in just 11 minutes, Futures call up Kyle Johnson had 14 on 6/7 shooting, with Eric Boateng shooting the same percentage for 13 points and 6 rebounds. Matthew Bryan-Amaning was the final player in double figures with 10. Alex Marcotullio had 9, Devon Van Oostrum 8, whilst Ogo Adegboye and Andrew Lawrence had 6 each, with Lawrence adding 5 assists as well.
Aron Roye led the Netherlands with 18 points on 6/8 shooting, whilst Arvin Slagter added 17 points and 5 assists.
