UWIC take top seed in Women’s Premier South

UWIC finished atop of the Women’s Premier South and after a dominating regular season they will look to continue their winning ways into the playoffs and Final 8s in Sheffield.

London South Bank showed their prowess in a 115-40 triumph over Bristol University. Tereza Prouzová, for LSBU, led all scorers with 35 points and Josephine Maignomo added 24 for the London side. Loughborough beat Northumbria in final game of Women’s Premier North season

On the day of the BUCS Last 16s draw, Loughborough traveled to Northumbria to see if they could cause an upset and steal fourth place in the Women’s Premier North from Sheffield Hallam. Naomi Campbell (also of Sheffield Hatters) was unable to travel for Loughborough due to an exam clash, leaving them with just 6 players, however a huge 30-point performance (including six from behind the arch) from Loughborough’s Jennie Rodgers, helped them to a 78-44 rout over the northern side.

Loughborough’s Head Coach Matthew Harber was delighted with the win,

“It was a great testament to the girls and their hard work through a difficult time in our schedule and clearly illustrates the progress that we have made. We now have to focus on our next task of qualifying for BUCS Championship Final 8’s.”

Northumbria’s Ta’yani Clark was not herself in the limited minutes she played, only scoring 5 points whilst carrying an injury. Head Coach Deidre Hayes will hope she is back to full health for up coming National League fixtures as well as their BUCS Last 16s game, against the University of Strathclyde, in a few weeks time.

Elsewhere, Edinburgh faced Birmingham on Sunday, due to their match being postponed in December. The Scottish side cruised to a 78-35 win on their home court, whilst securing second place in the Premier North.
