Scottish product Alasdair Fraser has signed to NCAA Division 1 school University of Maine.
The 6’7 forward from Falkirk, Scotland, led Scotland and ranked fifth in the FIBA Under-18 European championships with 19.7 points per game. He was also first in field goal percentage (74 percent) and third in blocks with 1.7 per game while also contributing 7.0 rebounds per game. Fraser also enjoyed success for the Falkirk Clark Eriksson Fury in the Scottish League as he led the team to a second place finish in the regular season by averaging 19.8 points per game, putting him second in the league in scoring.
In the Scottish League Cup Final he scored 28 points to go with 16 rebounds, three steals and two blocks as they won the championship over Edinburgh 63-50.
Head Coach Ted Woodward had this to say about Alasdair
“We are very excited to have Alasdair join our basketball program here at Maine. He is an extremely gifted player and a wonderful student and person. We are thrilled for him to be a Black Bear! Coach Doug Leichner has great knowledge of prospects throughout the world, and when we realised this spring we were able to find a recruit to help our program, Ali was the one we sought. Our staff did a wonderful job recruiting him, and our entire campus community deserves credit for his signing as he told us he loved our entire campus environment, the people here at the University of Maine and our student-athletes.”
The Blackbears compete in the America East Conference, meaning Fraser will go up against fellow Brit and former Reading Rockets player Danny Carter who is at Stony Brook. Hoopsfix wants to wish Ali all the best with his NCAA career, I will be following!
