England U18s Beaten Heavily in Euros Opener

England under-18’s suffered a heavy 88-47 defeat at the hands of Croatia as they began their quest to better last year’s ninth place finish in Division A at the European Championships in Konya, Turkey.

Pharroh Gordon top scored with a game-high 16 points from the bench but was the only player to register double figures. Starting forward Theo Oghide grabbed 12 rebounds to go along with his 6 points as England struggled with their shooting, finishing with a 22.9% success rate from the field.

Croatia raced out of the blocks to open up a commanding 50-18 lead at the half. Karl Brown’s side battled to keep the score down in the second and managed to salvage some pride by edging the final quarter 18-17, albeit as the opposition ran their bench.

Box score.

England take on France on Friday knowing that defeat would be a serious blow to their chances of progressing to the next round.
