England U16s Promotion Hopes Dashed with Loss to Finland

England Under-16s will be playing for fifth place after suffering a 70-60 loss to Finland on Wednesday afternoon at the Division B European Championships.

A Slovenia victory over Macedonia later that evening sealed their fate, as promotion to Division A will have to wait at least another year,

Despite heading into the fourth quarter leading, a near nine minute drought, whilst the Finns reeled off fifteen straight, saw England’s fate sealed.

Josh Steel led England with 13 points, Akwasi Yeboah had 12, and Aidan Gastaldi Davies added 11. Samuel Japhet-Mathias had 9 rebounds and blocked 5 shots, helping to add to his tournament third-best average in that category.

England will now place FYR Macedonia on Thursday afternoon.
