*Article edited from original to reflect announcements on official Midnight Madness website.
Everyone has been waiting for it, and finally I’m proud to announce Hoopsfix has the details of THE event of the summer-Midnight Madness 2010!
Things are looking pretty different this year for Midnight Madness, who have overhauled both their format and schedule. The biggest change will be a reduction in the number of events, which will see only three qualifiers (South East,West and North) taking place (meaning you need to register quick if you’re to guarantee your place as it will be a on a first come first serve basis!).
On top of that, the event will also now almost serve as a summer league-allowing teams to enter, not just individuals. This means from each event, not only will the top individuals or ‘Free Agents’ qualify, but also the best team. The Ball Without Bias system will still be in place.
Age groups will be split into three this year; U18, U20 and U25, giving more opportunities to players as opposed to the two age group brackets last year (U18 and U23).
For the women or the ‘She Got Game’ portion of the event, there will only be one qualifier (at The Score, East London) and will have only one age bracket-U25′s.
Registration for Midnight Madness 2010 should be opening up on their website within the next 7 days. It’s gonna be BIG!
*Note-a few of these details are a little hazy (all from memory), I should be getting a full document from MM explaining the new format asap which I will then update this post with.
Midnight Madness 2010 Schedule (Dates and Locations)
Sunday 25th July 2010; South East Qualifier (The Score, Leyton, London), She Got Game will also take place at this event ONLY.
Saturday 31st August 2010: West Qualifier (Filton WISE Campus, Bristol)
Saturday 7th August 2010: North Qualifier (Jesse Boots Wildcats Arena, Nottingham)
Saturday 14th August 2010: All Nighter Boot Camp Qualifiers (Jesse Boots Wildcats Arena, Nottingham)*
Wednesday 18th August: Boot Camp (location TBC)
Saturday 21st August 2010: Midnight Madness Finals Night (Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, Crystal Palace)
*For all those that have qualified at one of the three previous qualifiers.
What do you think?
What do you reckon to the new format? Love it or hate it? Looking forward to it? Drop a comment below and let me know!

Well that is terrible!! the whole point of MM is to go all over to ball even if you don’t make it through. I don’t know how I feel about this one
was finally looking foward to play and enter this tournament now im at that skill level. im 26 so are they having an over 25s group .
Will make this year interesting…as always it’ll be a battle to qualify for boot camp & finals night, but this year the competition level at every event should be HIGH. No free rides! Should provide plenty of highlights for Hoopsfix to capture!
im 16 and looking to sign up, i went on the MM website and it has nothing about registering for 2010, even under the player registration tab, does anyone have any idea where to register?
All the women playing international basketball for GB U20 and England U 18 will be away on International duty
Will still be a bump because all the players that have big links with mm and morely so nhamo will play together as a team. So for example current England players such as ogo, justin, matthew and Tayo will just put a team together and dominate the whole event. Good luck to all those that attend from small towns or the unknown players. I can probably already tell you the top 10 players for the u25 section. The 4 above Clayfell Haris, Carl Josey, Ladi Brown, David Ajumobi, Albert Margi and possibly Ashley Hamilton if he decides and very possible another person from out of London but it’s very unlikely. Apologies if I have spelt any names wrong and I am not blaming these players for being friends, extremely talented and entering as teams but please don’t take us for idiots and try to say this system makes it more fair.
true dat!
we fly high, no lie, you know its..ballin!!!
this is shit! for one thing, what happened to rewgionals? secondly, teams? wtf? sounds like mnm looking 4 easier ways 2 pick their favourites! this sort of bullshit set up is just why english basketball is a joke. i was lookin 4ward 2 mnm but once again basketball in england is made a mockery.
wsh i could play in that man, its always a good look.
Flip!.. England Basketball has nothing to do with MNM and I can see no comparison. I bet if the was lots more funds around it would be bigger than last year. Everyone is being squeezed and Basketball in no exception. The coming years will be much more difficult with all the cuts on the the horizon, which is been filtered down. So all that is left is to be the best you can be & if that means beating the big names (big talent), then up your game thus improving Basketball in this country and BACK BRITISH BASKETBALL.
Fuck the politics.
the dates have been set.
lets play.
thanks for sharing this with us but we have been waiting so long to sign up been told 7 days a few weeks when exactly can we sign up
Big up tricky!!! Defo f the politics…
Some of you need to recognise that basketball aint free. MM is a massively expensive event to run, do you have any idea how much it costs to put on roadshows, clinics, finals night etc! The funding has been cut, as with most things in life, so just be grateful that its still running.
MM has been going for over 10years now and still does not charge anyone to play – stop hating guys…come on now!
maybe they should charge to play something small like £3 a qualifier so only can play, everyone pays subs wherever they play dont they? I know it will take away the community factor of the tournament but if there is no money things have to be done
Also how many people will go through per qualifier
Its gonna be rubbish
Exactly john, i would much rather pay 3 quid at say, newcastle or leeds (where there was qualifiers last year) then pay like 50 quid on the train to get to nottingham lol. nobody would complain, and the amount of people you get at each run they would easily cover the costs..
Typical Girls Basketball comes second best again and surprise surprise its down south so limits the northen girls opportunities! The world doesn’t revolve around London there are a lot of very good players elsewhere in the country WAKE UP…………
If you scared, say you scared, people worrying about who is playing with who. If you good enough it don’t matter, guess people scared of competition. Ladies you need to represent so MM can realise you need more playing time, history has shown sometimes only 10-15 women show up at events up north.
out of curiosity how many players are allowed on each team? is it just a straight 5 on the court or are subs allowed?
Does anybody know the start time for men?
with all due respect to the guys that arrange and put in the hard work for MM to actually run, this year has taken a few steps backwards… If it ain’t broke then don’t fix it? Last year was FULLY a success, with lots of talent getting the props they deserved, I mean the age group revision is definitely a good look but the whole team thing DOES NOT find out who your best players are.. Good basketball players can play in any team and should have to showcase there skills with everyone or anyone.. Opposed to turning up with people who they learn to play the game with or even team mates from official set ups. It isn’t even a bitch out about all the overseas and GB etc. type guys teaming up but on a real, why let the most talented crop just destroy errybody from the qualifying stages after all the boot camp and finals is where we wanna see this crop playing together.
