One GB U23 Player To Make Senior Squad

Players such as Ogo Adegboye now have an outside shot at making the final men's team

British Basketball revealed yesterday that the top player from the recently announced Great Britain Under 23’s squad will make the final men’s roster. The official press release states:

One place in the final senior men’s roster is being kept open until after the Future’s tournament in Lille (18-20 June) with the intention of awarding that coveted spot to the most stand-out Future’s player.

GB U23 and Senior Head Coach Chris Finch said;

“I am very excited to get the chance to work with all of these players and be able to evaluate their games and how they may be able to help the senior men’s team. We are confident that some of these players are ready and have the potential to make the senior squad and we are also confident that there will be some pleasant surprises during the week as well.”

Though I guess this is a ‘nice’ idea in principle, I don’t think this is the time nor the place to start experimenting with the GB seniors squad. You tellin’ me if there is a player who is at the men’s camp that is better for the final team, they won’t make the final cut as British Basketball have chosen to keep one roster spot open for a GB U23?! Bad move. If the U23 player gets there on their own merit, it’s a different story but the way it’s being told I’m not so sure…
