GB U23’s Take Down Belgium

After their disappointing loss to France yesterday, the GB U23’s were dominant in the second half to pull away from Belgium and win 83-68. After a less than convincing first half, GB turned it on in the third quarter to take the lead and pull away.

GB played much better defensively, scoring 16 points off turnovers whilst not settling for outside shots-they scored 40 points in the paint, a number of them off dunks.

There is however, still plenty of room for improvement, they were once again out-rebounded and gave up far too many second chance opportunities.

Matthew Bryan-Amaning led all scorers once more, with 26 points along with 9 rebounds and 7 steals, whilst Justin Robinson had 19.

Thoughts/Notes

-Finch went with the same starters as yesterday; Justin Robinson, Ogo Adegboye, Ben Eaves, Matthew Bryan-Amaning and Liam Potter

-The game was tight for the first half; GB were only up 41-40 at half time, but in the third they upped the intensity and went on a 10-0 run (or around that lol)

-Devan Bailey I think has surprised a lot of people, going from someone who would be playing behind Justin Robinson and Ogo Adegboye to someone who is competing for minutes with them and making great contributions off the bench.

-Ashley Hamilton once again played well with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists on 5/7 shooting. The guy has been virtually unstoppable so far in the tournament when he takes it the hole, too strong and quick to be stopped.

-Ogo Adegboye had 13 points (4/9 shooting), Ben Eaves had 5, Devan Bailey had 3, Liam Potter 2 and Andy Thompson 1. Colin Sing went scoreless in 4 minutes.

-Adrien Sturt, who has been battling ankle injuries since training camp, agitated his injury once more yesterday and sat out.

-Crowd was once again poor, was expecting the weekend to bring more people out!

-Bryan-Amaning played a lot more aggressive today, getting 25 shots up (making 12 of them).

-At the last minute I managed to set up a (poor quality) live stream of the game, which ended up with around 120 viewers at one point, the feedback was generally positive so I will also be broadcasting tomorrow’s game against Luxembourg which you will be able to find here (1pm UK tip).
