Team Black recorded a strong 96-66 victory over Team White in the Under-19 Men’s game at the 2023 Hoopsfix All-Star Classic.
Vince Macaulay’s side ran out comfortable winners behind the performances of Nedas Cholevinskas and Chudi Dioramma at Crystal Palace, on Sunday.
Cholevinskas took home the MVP award with 21 points, eight rebounds and four steals, while Dioramma added 12 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks with Louie Tucker contributing 16 points off the bench.
Dioramma had six early points in a 10-2 start capped by a driving dunk from Dijarn Russell-Walters. Matt Goodwin hit a three to cut the gap before five points from Cholevinskas and a triple from 3-Point Shootout winner William Issekya gave Team Black a 22-13 advantage after 10 minutes.
They used a 12-2 burst through a variety of scorers to further their control in the second with a Tucker three making it a 16-point game. Team White managed to stem the flow of points, but were unable to make a significant dent in their deficit as they trailed 41-29 at half-time.
Team White threatened another fightback early in the third, while the combination of Dioramma and Cholevinskas had other ideas as the lead soon after grew to beyond 20 points. Team Black poured in 30 points in total during the third period to stretch ahead at 71-46.
An 8-2 run pushed the gap to 30 points early in the fourth and the players continued to put on a show with several 1-on-1 battles including the Asante brothers. Tucker had seven points in quick succession before Cholevinskas put the seal on his MVP display with a triple in the final minute.
Goodwin top scored in defeat with 14 points, while Ignas Juskevicius posted a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds.
