GB Under-16s Lose Opening Prep Game vs Czech Republic

Segun Shodunke

Great Britain Under-16s fell 83-80 against Czech Republic in the opening game of their preparation, a 12-minute quarter game in the Czech Republic on Thursday night.

Segun Shodunke led GB with 16 points, Cameron Hildreth added 13, whilst Veron Eze joined them in double figures with 11.

“Today was a great chance for all fourteen players to play against Euro opposition – many of which were representing their country for the first time,” Head Coach James Vear said.

“Having four 12 minute quarters gave us a great opportunity to rotate everyone and see in more detail players’ strengths and weaknesses.”

Matthew Marsh grabbed 9 rebounds, as the game featured 12 lead changes. GB were haunted by turning the ball over 31 times, which the host turned into 29 points.

GB now face Czech Republic again Saturday at 3pm, before returning home on Sunday. They will resume training camp at UEL on Wednesday, before facing France in a two game series on Saturday and Sunday next week, with the Sunday game said to be open to the public (tip times TBC).
