Reading Rockets completed the Division 1 treble this season after claiming the league title on Thursday night with two games remaining due to an administrative error on the part of Essex Leopards.
Leopards showed up at NASSA without their license cards and NASSA claimed the game, giving Essex the loss that Reading needed to take the title before the season is over.
Rockets add to their Cup and Trophy (picture above) titles from this season, and have now won the last five consecutive National basketball titles starting with the League title and Play-off Championship last season followed by the National Cup, National Cup and retaining the Division 1 title again.
They will look to complete the run with another playoff title, as the side continues to have BBL aspirations.
“Well I´m really happy, really proud of all my players and the club that is working in the right direction to be in future in BBL,” said Rockets Head Coach Manuel Peña Garcés, who emphasised they have focused on player development as opposed to just winning games.
“…I´m still thinking in day by day and I didn´t have enough time to know exactly what we have done; and maybe it´s because we don´t want to stop yet. We are working hard to be competitive now in the playoffs. All my players are hungry for more games. I´m really lucky because I have great players and great persons; this group has been the key this year.
“When we started the season some people ask us about our aim for the year, and our answer was always to be competitive everyday. I didn´t think in that moment we would complete the treble. It has been a dream.
“Now in the playoffs is going to be really difficult, because top eight teams are all of a really great level. I hope to enjoy it a lot, and I hope that the people enjoy it as well.”
