Manchester Magic to Lure David 'Tin Tin' Watts?

MANCHESTER Magic are set to lure EBL player of the year David Watts from their biggest rivals, Reading Rockets.

The Magic hierarchy are in advanced talks with the 6ft 8ins forward, who led the Rockets to their amazing quadruple last season.

Mansfield-born Watts, known as Tintin, has been one of the dominant English players in the league for the last few seasons, and would represent a major coup for Magic head coach Jeff Jones.

“We are in talks with Watts about joining us,” said Jones. “Hopefully we can sort it out.”

He will, if the club secure his services, form the bedrock of Jones’ team, alongside returning backcourt duo Brandon Kimbrough and Stefan Gill.

Their fellow guard Taner Adu looks set to leave the Amaechi Centre after two successful seasons, with BBL newcomers Essex Pirates a possible destination for the Londoner.

And, with centre Steve Boonham possibly unavailable for the start of the new season in a few weeks, Watts’ arrival would be even more telling.

The England international has a height presence that – Boonham apart – Magic lacked last season as they came in second behind Reading in all competitions and is a versatile threat.

That won’t stop Jones looking at more big men. He is running the rule over a couple of potential young candidates, as well as keeping tabs on the movements of a couple of forwards that have come through the clubs ranks and are currently weighing up their BBL options.

If they pull that off, will be a huuuuge coup
