Smile Eastmids take the U13 Regional tournament title from London!

A fairy tale story as the first-time finalist East midland U13 team battled their way to the final of the 2011 British basketball Regional tournament held at Lilleshall National Sports Centre, to face the reigning champions: London.

The game, at first, was probably thought to be completely one sided, but the East midland squad fought hard and dominated throughout. They held the lead all game finishing every quarter on top and finally getting what they'd all worked hard for...THE WIN and the title of 2011 British Basketball Regional tournament CHAMPIONS!

East Midlands not only dominated the final leading by as many as 22 in the final quarter, but lead from start to finish through all group games. The semi final saw East Midlands beat Scotland by 40 while the North West lost by ca 15 to London.
The East Midlands Captain, Luke Mitchell, iced the weekend by taking the British Shooting title.
A well earned victory for a tesm effort.

I've been told Luke Mitchell was the standout player of the tournament. Thoughts on him? Any other standout individuals? Gutted I couldn't make it. Lilleshall is well and truly in the middle of nowhere haha.

I would love to offer an opinion but it would be judged as biased as Luke is my son! I will leave it to others to comment but the feedback I had from other coaches, ex-players was in agreement with the above.

Other players I liked the look of were Ricardo Eaton-Barnes (NW), Kemar Hawes (London), Adam Darbous (East), Joe Turner (SW), Hakim Williams (EM), Keagan Allen (EM), Stewart Morgan (Scotland) and Miguel Rodriguez Ruiz (SE). I didn't see every game but these were standouts for me.
