Cavs Assistant Phil Handy Running London Skills Clinic

Cleveland Cavaliers’ assistant coach Phil Handy is leading a 3-day skills development clinic this weekend at Uxbridge College in London.

The clinic – put on by Beyond the Contracts – will see Handy work with a number of top UK players including current/former GB internationals Myles Hesson, Ryan Richards and Will Saunders as well as BBL duo Conner Washington and Tayo Ogedengbe.

“The clinic is focused on skill development training, and right now there is nobody better in the world to do the job than Phil Handy,” said Director, Daniel James, a former England Under-18 himself. “Skill Development is a culture which I feel we should mirror in the UK.

“We as a country are improving in the sport and for me, it’s not just about the Xs and Os; it is about learning how to play a game within a game, making the right move/decision at the right time and executing correctly.

“It is the formula that helps create better players who can then hopefully move us forward in regards to national rankings.”

Handy is the Director of Player Development at the Cavs – recently working closely with the players during the NBA Finals – and was a former player for Golden State and Portland having also played in Europe including a stint in the BBL with Manchester Giants. He has also been credited for the Cavs resurgence in the 2016 NBA Finals.

The clinic is not only for players, but coaches are also being given the opportunity to get involved, either observing or assisting.
