Luol Deng Reportedly Agrees Deal to Join the Lakers

Luol Deng is heading to Los Angeles after agreeing a four-year, $72 million deal with the Lakers, according to The Vertical’s Shams Charania.

The 31-year-old GB star had been an unrestricted free agent and was strongly linked with the likes of Utah Jazz, Minnesota Timberwolves and the Boston Celtics since Free Agency began on Friday.

However, Deng has opted for a move to LA on a long-term contract with Golden State Warriors’ assistant Luke Walton recently taking over as the new Head Coach of the Lakers.

Deng played 146 games for Miami Heat over the last two seasons, earning shy of $20 million during that span in which he averaged 13.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.

The Lakers will be the fourth team Deng has played for in the NBA having had spells with Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers and most recently, Miami – with over 800 games played in his career.

Brandon Ingram – the number 2 pick in this year’s NBA Draft – spent a year of his college career at Duke with Deng also having played under legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski for the programme from 2003-04.

According to Spotrac, Deng will earn an estimated base salary of $16,861,827 for the 2016-17 season.
