Brits Abroad Round-up – Week 6

Luol Deng is currently averaging 10 points and 4 rebounds per game in the NBA as Miami Heat make a 5-3 start to the season. The 30-year-old tied his season-high with 14 points in the 101-88 win over the Lakers and also added four rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Matthew Bryan-Amaning had 19 points in 17 minutes, while Aaron Geramipoor added 11 points and seven rebounds in an 81-78 win for Soles (5-1) against the previously unbeaten Pioneros, in Mexico. Bryan-Amaning then followed that with 13 points in an 85-78 victory against the same team for a successful double-winning weekend.

Also out in Mexico is former Newcastle, Sheffield and Mersey forward Tafari Toney, and he had five points and 11 boards in his most recent game as Abejas (5-1) recorded an 83-74 victory in the LNBP to sit second behind Soles.

Devon van Oostrum (pictured) produced another all-round display in the Greek top-flight after scoring 12 points and adding four rebounds and four assists, although Arkadikos (1-4) would suffer an 83-70 loss. Ovie Soko went 7-of-8 from inside the arc in a 20-point haul for Trikala (2-3) as they were beaten 84-79 on the road.

In the A2 league, Fahro Alihodzic had a team-high 17 points and also added eight rebounds to lead Promitheas (4-2) to an 83-63 victory at the weekend, with Rob Gilchrist and Peristeri Athens (1-2) not in action.

Experienced guard Ogo Adegboye continues to impress in Italy’s Serie A after leading Vanoli Cremona (3-3) to a 68-61 victory with a team-high 14 points as well as five rebounds. In Serie A2, Ashley Hamilton posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds in a 76-70 loss for Matera (1-5), while Will Saunders had six points and eight rebounds as Novipiu Casale (4-2) were beaten 66-73 at home.

In Spain, Dan Clark went up against Euroleague giants Barcelona at the weekend and had eight points and four rebounds in 17 minutes as Andorra (1-4) suffered an 89-66 loss. Meanwhile, Andrew Lawrence played just 11 minutes in another defeat for Gipuzkoa (0-5). Caceres (3-3) fell to another loss in LEB Gold as Ben Mockford went 2-of-8 from downtown in his eight points in a 64-76 defeat.

Myles Hesson was held scoreless in 15 minutes as Dijon (4-3) struggled to get going in a 74-63 road loss in Pro-A at the weekend. Former GB forward/centre Laurence Ekperigin has made a strong start to the season in Pro-B, and recorded 18 points, eight rebounds and five blocks in a 92-89 defeat for Poiters (0-3).

In the French NM1, Eric Boateng had another big game for Blois (7-1) as he contributed 16 points – including 8-of-8 from the free throw line – and six rebounds in a convincing 88-52 victory. Meanwhile, in Germany, Gabe Olaseni saw limited minutes as Brose Baskets (5-1) continued their strong start in the BBL and also claimed a 77-66 victory over Maccabi Tel-Aviv in Euroleague action mid-week.

Chris Caird dropped 30 points, including going 5-of-7 from 3-point range, but FSU (0-5) still await the elusive first win as they went down 104-88 on the road, in Iceland. There was a heavy 80-54 defeat for CAB Madeira (3-3) in Portugal with Orlan Jackman scoring seven points in the loss as his new side dropped to .500 against the undefeated league leaders, Benfica.

Liam Potter posted 10 points and five rebounds in a 94-97 road victory for Svendborg (4-3) in midweek as they remain fourth in the Danish Ligaen. In the Netherlands, Ali Fraser went 8-of-10 inside the arc in his 16 points and Nigel van Oostrum added an all-round five points, seven rebounds and seven assists in a 69-84 victory for Leeuwardedn (2-3).
