Brits in College – Week 16 Recap

With the sixteenth week of the college basketball season completed, we take a look at all the top performing Brits in NCAA Division 1 in the past seven days.

Player of the Week

Luke Nelson came up big for UC Irvine with 15 points on 9-10 free throw shooting including a perfect 6/6 in the final minute to close out the 68-62 victory. The sophomore guard also had 4 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in a loss at UC Santa Barbara.

Best of the Rest

Alex Young scored 4 points in the loss, before contributing 8 points and 5 assists in the win against CS Fullerton. The Anteaters took their record in the Big West to 11-4 and have one regular season game remaining, at UC Davis.

Teddy Okereafor earned All-MAAC second team honours for Rider, and finished the regular season with 4 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists in a 59-49 win. The Broncos are the second seeds after winning 15 games in the conference for the first time in its history.

Senior centre Gabe Olaseni hit 8-8 from the line and had 12 points and 7 rebounds as Iowa outlasted Penn State 81-77 in an OT thriller. Olaseni then contributed 13 points and 8 boards in a 77-63 win to leave the Hawkeyes with just one regular season game left.

Ben Lawson went 4-5 from the field for his 9 points and added 4 rebounds along with 2 blocks in a win for WKU, before finishing with 6 points and 6 rebounds in another victory, coming in OT. The Hilltoppers have a 12-5 record in Conference-USA and now have one game to conclude their regular season.

Senior forward Will Saunders helped CSU to a share of the Big South regular season with 15 points and 10 rebounds in a final-game 97-90 triple OT victory against High Point. Saunders also claimed a place on the Big South second team. Jack Crook had 8 points and 5 rebounds in a 53-43 win for Seattle, with Shore Adenekan adding four points.

Western Illinois finished their regular season with an 84-64 loss with Jamie Batish scoring 8 points. The Leathernecks will play the top seeds South Dakota State in the quarter-finals of the The Summit League Tournament this weekend.

Notable mention: In NCAA DII, Jordan Spencer was named NCIS Freshman of the Year, whilst helping Augustana to the Conference Championship win.
