Questions Remain On a GB Senior Men’s Programme for Summer 2015

It remains unclear whether or not the Great Britain Senior Men’s squad will field any type of programme this summer following their failure to qualify for EuroBasket 2015.

With the majority of teams they would normally face in any type of competitive schedule being involved with EuroBasket, it would mean having to go further afield; at a greater cost.

And as with every year, player availability will be an issue – even more so when the games mean nothing.

Officials are continuing to talk about the plans, with Head Coach Joe Prunty, in London this week for NBA Global Games, having met up with both National Teams Director Warwick Cann and captain Drew Sullivan over the past two days.

It appears as though a GB Futures type programme could be on the cards – where GB would bring in likely senior players over the next few years for a short period.

“There’s never a summer off, no matter what’s happening there’s always something going on whether it’s communication with the players or what have you,” Prunty said.

“Nothing’s been set, there’s a lot of things in the works right now so a lot to still be determined.”

Prunty added he is communicating regularly with players but refused to be pushed on which way he would lean if he had to make a choice on whether or not the squad will play games.
