Brits Abroad – Week 10 Round-up

Luol Deng injured his right hand during a loss at Atlanta, forcing him to miss the following game against Milwaukee, before returning with 13 points in a 103-87 defeat on the road at Memphis – a fourth straight loss for Miami Heat (9-11). Meanwhile, Portland Trail Blazers (16-4) enjoyed another strong week with Joel Freeland averaging 2.7 points and 5.3 rebounds in 10.3 minutes per game.

Devon van Oostrum scored a season-high 10 points last Wednesday as Kouvot (10-5) extended their winning run in the Korisliiga. The GB point guard netted twice from 3-point range, and also dished out four assists during the 85-82 victory.

The unbeaten start of Hapoel Jerusalem (9-1) came to an end in Israel as they suffered an 87-85 home defeat, without Pops Mensah-Bonsu. The GB forward did however help his side to a EuroCup victory in mid-week with 11 points and 5 rebounds in an 83-64 road win in Serbia.

Cherkasy (7-6) suffered two road defeats in the week to drop to 5th place in the Superleague, despite two strong performances from Ashley Hamilton. In the first of two losses, the 26-year-old had a huge game with 30 points on 9-12 shooting from the field, before following it up with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists.

Matthew Bryan-Amaning posted consecutive double-doubles of 19 points, 13 rebounds and 20 points, 13 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Soles (14-7) sliding to two defeats against their nearest rivals this week.

Myles Hesson saw 11 minutes of action in a 98-84 defeat for Bremerhaven (4-8) with the GB forward collecting six rebounds and two points. In Spain, Dan Clark helped Fuenlabrada (2-8) to just their second Liga Endesa win with 12 points in the 88-65 success.

Ourense (7-3) moved to joint top of the Spanish second division with Ben Allison scoring his only field goal attempt from the bench in 74-68 victory. Mo Soluade lifted Clinicas Rincon (2-8) to another victory with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists, while Joe Hart saw limited action in a defeat for Penas Huesca (4-6), and Will Neighbour scored 5 points in 6 minutes as Oviedo (5-6) claimed a 77-70 win.

In LEB Silver, Ben Mockford left Caceres due to personal reasons during the week, while Aaron Geramipoor helped inspire a first win for Canarias Basketball Academy (1-8) with a huge performance of 26 points (11-16 FG) and nine rebounds.

There was another battle of the Brits, in Germany this week as Robert Gilchrist and debutant Jules Dang Akodo went head-to-head. Karlsruhe (7-4) came out on top against Fraport Skyliners II (5-6) with a 64-56 win, with Gilchrist adding nine points in the win. Akodo also scored nine points himself and dished out four assists as he made his Pro-B bow with his new side.

Iserlohn (10-1) continue to fly high in the Pro-B South Group with Orlan Jackman dominating with 24 points on 4-9 3-point shooting, 13 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists. In the North, Itzehoe (7-5) were beaten 82-70 with Clayfell Harris adding two points, five rebounds and three assists.

Ogo Adegboye scored 10 points to help Aris return to winning ways with an 86-75 win against AEK Athens, while Fahro Alihodic scored two points and added four rebounds in 10 minutes as AGOR (7-3) maintained their solid league position with a 74-64 win on the road.

Justin Robinson scored 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in an 84-78 win last Wednesday, before an 18-point haul guided his side to an 83-80 success, whilst adding five rebounds and four assists as Apollon (4-3) enjoyed a successful double-header this week.

Mid-week action in the NM1 saw an all-Brit clash as Lourdes (8-3) defeated Sorgues (5-7). Shane Walker helped his side to a 70-67 victory with 13 points, while Tafari Toney top scored with a game-high 19 points in defeat, adding nine rebounds. Toney again narrowly missed out on a double-double with 12 points and 9 rebounds in a 78-62 loss for Sorgues. Lourdes then lost to the league leaders, with Walker adding 8 points and 7 boards in the 87-82 loss.

Gareth Murray scored five points as Challans (7-5) climbed the table with a convincing 72-58 win. Rob Marsden helped Cognac (3-9) end their losing run with 11 points and 8 rebounds in a slender 75-74 victory, before adding a similar stat-line with three points less in a close-fought 78-76 defeat.

Devan Bailey scored 22 points in his first game with Saint Francois in Guadeloupe to help his new side climb to third in the table, alongside Nathan Schall.

Liam Potter did not play during mid-week as Naestved (5-6) fell to an 86-75 home loss, while Nigel van Oostrum and Ovie Soko were not in action this past week.
