England U18s Secure First Win to Keep Survival Hopes Alive

England under-18’s produced a timely first victory at the European Championships after defeating Poland 83-74 to avoid being relegated.

However, Karl Brown’s side will have to repeat the feat tomorrow when they take on either Belgium or the Czech Republic in a game that will determine the final team to drop to Division A for 2015.

Aaron Menzies stepped up with a huge double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds while Jules Dang Akodo top scored with a game-high 18 points. Josh Steel added 16 points while Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye also reached double figures with 10.

England made a strong start before being pegged back by their opponents and went into the half-time break level at 40-40. When play resumed, England seized control with a 22-6 opening to the third and they were not about to let it slip as they coasted to the win.
