England U16s Ease Past Scotland in Euros Opener

England under-16’s began their Division B campaign at the European Championships with a convincing 94-51 victory over Scotland in Strumica on Wednesday.

Captain Carl Wheatle led the way with an impressive stat-line that included a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds as well as 4 assists and 4 steals. Four other players registered double figures with Henri Langton and Jelani Watson-Gayle both adding 13 points.

England raced out of the blocks and led by as many as 10 in the opening period before Scotland finished the quarter with the final six points to trail 20-16 at the end of the first. That was as close as they would get, as England began the second with a destructive 21-4 run to take control before heading into the half-time break up 43-22.

There was more of the same when play resumed as England used 8-0 and 11-0 bursts throughout the third to assert their authority and take a commanding 70-36 advantage into the final quarter. England powered on in the fourth and narrowly missed out on the century as they hit the ground running in Macedonia.
