Drew Sullivan Returns Home to Join London Lions

Great Britain Senior Men’s co-captain Drew Sullivan has officially completed his move to the London Lions after signing a two-year deal with the BBL club.

Sullivan’s homecoming was finally announced as the Lions hosted a press-conference at London’s Aquatic Centre following weeks of rumours concerning the move.

“Words can’t begin to express my excitement about returning home,” Sullivan said. “Any one that knows me knows my pride of being a Londoner. Now to have the chance to represent my home town team as a professional player is honestly a dream come true.”

The 34-year-old joins former team-mate and last year’s BBL MVP Zaire Taylor at the capital side, much to the delight of head-coach Vince Macaulay.

“Firstly I’d like to thank GLL Sports Foundation and our sponsors for making this possible, we are very proud to have Drew at the club,” he said. “We have signed him on a two year contract and we expect him to help shape the direction of the club.

“I have known Drew since he was a young lad with Joe White and it has been my desire to ensure there was a club in London that could bring him back, and now that has happened, I’m delighted. He is a winner with a winning mentality and we want to surround him with those kind of players so we can challenge for every honour in the game.

“The Copper Box is a great place to watch professional basketball in London, we want to put a great team on the floor and Drew Sullivan will make our fans happy as will Zaire Taylor, Makal Stibbins and the host of signings we have. Our fans are going to get great value from their season tickets as we provide exciting basketball in a big setting.”

Last week, it was confirmed that Sullivan’s three-year spell with Leicester Riders was coming to an end despite the club’s efforts to re-sign him. The 6’8″ forward is a two-time BBL league MVP and has won 15 trophies during an illustrious career.

Sullivan is currently on national duty and will play in his new home tomorrow evening as GB take on Bosnia in their second 2015 EuroBasket qualifier at the Copper Box Arena.
