Midnight Madness Returns, Announces 2014 Dates

After a year hiatus, Midnight Madness returns in August, bringing the biggest open participation summer basketball program in Europe back to a location near you.

With four qualifiers across the country, expanding on the two London only qualifiers they had in 2012, Midnight Madness will be coming to spot near you this summer, as it begins its nationwide talent search to find the best of the best to compete at Finals Night on August 29 at The Copper Box Arena in East London.

“We’re excited to finally be bringing Midnight Madness back for all those who love the events and competition – plus we’re looking forward to introducing the madness to a whole new generation!” said founder, Nhamo Shire.

“We started the journey 15 years ago and over the years have seen over 200 players who have gone pro or gone onto scholarships in the states. Over 60 players have gone on to play for the National Teams; there’s no question our events attract the best known and unknown British talent.”

There will be three age groups; Under-18, Under-23 and Over-23, with teams being split into North and South (for the first time!), for Finals Night.

Things will tip off on August 9 at The Copper Box, before heading to Portsmouth, Leeds, and Loughborough, before the All Nighter, where players will play throughout the night for a golden ticket to Boot Camp, where final selections will be made for Finals Night. Along with the all-star games on Finals night, there will be a dunk contest, three point shoot out and entertainment all spliced in

“For those who don’t know, Midnight Madness is like a British basketball rites of passage – the ultimate proving ground to show and prove you deserve to be regarded as the best of the best. Nothing is given, everything must be earned. We’ve worked hard to again provide the opportunity for players to come and play at the tournament for free – skills are the only currency that matter,” continued Shire.

“We’ve seen the best players ever to emerge out of Britain play in Midnight Madness in the past, our challenge to ballers everywhere this August is “Who’s Got Next?”.

Registration is free but playing spots are limited so players need to register ASAP (click here to do so) to avoid disappointment of not getting a spot at one of the four qualifiers.
