FamFest 2014 To Bring Together Best of British, Past & Present

Westcroft Leisure Centre will play host to some of the UK’s best basketball stars, past and present, this weekend (Saturday 26th July) as FamFest 2014 comes to Carshalton.

An electric mix of basketball and music, the eighth annual FamFest is an event for the entire family offering explosive basketball action as well as live entertainment, non-stop music, on-court games for children and adults and the chance to win loads of great prizes.

In a true battle of the ages, the UK’s best young talent will take on England’s all-time greats, a mix of Great Britain and England International players, both past and present in U21, U31, U41 and ‘Legends’ All-Star teams. Presented in an Old School v New School All-Star game format, spectators will be treated to top quality professional basketball to the backdrop of music and dance.

This year’s teams include Jamell Anderson (Great Britain and England International, BBL professional with the Leicester Riders); Shawn Jamison (former Harlem Globetrotter, retired BBL professional with the Milton Keynes Lions); Nick George (Great Britain International, BBL professional with the Plymouth Raiders); Taner Adu (England International, former BBL professional with Plymouth Raiders and Essex Pirates); Tyrell Isaacs (Junior England International) and Dwayne Orija (Junior England International).

Supported by iconic American sportswear brand, Converse, FamFest is an annual community fundraising event organised by Hoops Legacy International, a grassroots basketball coaching and mentoring programme working with young people aged 5-18. The event is recognised by England Basketball for its work in promoting multi-cultural basketball.

“Many of the young people we coach are unable to afford to attend professional basketball games in the UK. FamFest aims to bring those players together in one place and at a price that is affordable,” says Event Organiser, Luke Bowler.

Tickets cost £5 for adults, £4 for children and £15 for a family of four (two adults and two children or one adult and three children). Tickets can be bought on the door and doors open at 13:00 with U31s v U41s tipping off at 14:00 and U21s v Legends at 16:00.
