Reading Rockets Crowned 2014 National Cup Champions

Reading Rockets were crowned the 2014 National Cup Champions after beating NASSA, 93-72 in the final at the Worcester Arena on Sunday afternoon.

It is the third National Cup title for Reading, who remained in control of the game throughout, despite multiple surges from NASSA, who refused to go down without a fight.

Gabriel Diaz-Morera was named MVP with 29 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists, whilst Australian point guard Josh Wilcher, had 26 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists.

“We started with the right focus and mentality; we wanted to run even if we knew that the rhythm could be good for our opponent too,” said Rockets Head Coach Manuel Pena-Garces, who is in his first year with the club.

“However our dynamic game was successful in the first part of the game and we could control the tempo after that.

“I’m really proud of all my players. I said before the final that they deserve this reward because they are working so hard every practice. Now we have to enjoy this moment, but on Tuesday we have to go back to practice and be focused for the rest of the season.”

NASSA were led by Ladi Brown who finished with 17 points, whilst Dave Ajumobi added 13 points and 15 rebounds.

Box score.
