GB Go Down to Sweden in Lublin

Great Britain Senior Men suffered their third consecutive loss on Friday afternoon, losing 85-68 to Sweden in Lublin, Poland.

Sweden’s Jeffery Taylor did most of the damage, dropping 20 of his game high 33 points in the first half, but GB had no answers for the Swedes’ 56.5% shooting from the field.

“Defensively, we had lapses, particularly late in the first quarter and into the latter part of the second quarter, so we had a stretch at the beginning of the game in the first five minutes and again in the first five minutes of the second where we calmed ourselves down, but those runs hurt us,” Prunty explained.

GB won the third quarter by ten, 25-15, but it was one of the few positives the team could take from the game.

“We had a good third quarter and we talked at half-time about getting the lead down to ten and accomplished that goal,” continuted Prunty. “We wanted to continue that in the fourth but it just didn’t happen.”

Eric Boateng led GB with 14 points, Kyle Johnson added 13, whilst Kieron Achara had 11 and Devon van Oostrum 9 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Ogo Adegboye had 4 rebounds, 5 dimes and 2 steals in his 22 minutes.

“We need to look within ourselves,” Boateng said. “We have to stick together and if we remain upbeat, it will lead to results. That’s the good thing about these warm-ups, it builds your character as a unit and hopefully if we play a solid 40 minute game, it will lead to wins.”

GB will now face the host nation on Saturday afternoon to complete their trip to Poland, as Prunty is expected to announce his final 12 for Eurobasket next week.
