Great Britain star Pops Mensah-Bonsu has left Spanish side Cajasol Sevilla and signed with Olimpia Milano for the remainder of the season.

The 6’9″ Londoner initially had an agreement in principle with Cimberio Varese but accepted a better offer from Milano at the last minute, a club he was originally rumoured to be joining in January before he headed to Spain.

“It’s a great opportunity, I’ve had an opportunity to play here a few times but the timing has always been wrong,” he said, speaking to the media on his arrival in Italy. “I feel like this time it’s perfect, after coming off an injury and playing a few games in Spain and getting my legs and my confidence on the court back, and coming to a situation where the team could use what I do best is good.”Pops had 7 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists in 19 minutes in his debut on Sunday, a win over Angelico Biella.

He averaged 6.3ppg and 4.8rpg in 6 games with Cajasol. Check him out running through a light workout in Italy below:

Pops is a good English player compared to present standards in England, but now he is really a journeyman player in Europe, like so many UK players trying to make a decent living playing ball in Europe.

What happens for his future when his ball time eventually runs out?
