Josh Steel Selected to Jordan Brand Classic International Game in Brooklyn

Josh Steel, the sole British representative at the Jordan Brand Classic International Tour this weekend in Barcelona, Spain, has been selected as one of the 10 MVPs of the camp to play in the 2013 Jordan Classic International Game.

The game, which will be rounded out with eight other players selected from around the world, will be played at the new Barlcays Centre in Brooklyn, New York, on April 13, and showcase some of the top under-16 international talent from around the world.

Steel (pictured above, number 52), a 6’4″ guard who plays for Barking Abbey, was selected as one of the ten best from 41 of the top European prospects from 23 different countries who took part in the three day training camp at Ciutat Esportiva, the training ground of FC Barcelona from March 1-3.

The camp features both basketball and strength and conditioning sessions. All of the sessions are geared toward teaching the athletes how to improve their skills to compete at the next level.

During the weekend, the participants were also able to tour and have dinner at the famous FC Barcelona Camp Nou football stadium.

Steel (1997 born) becomes just the third British player to play in the prestigious US showcase, joining Jules Christian (2012) and Kenroy Wood(2007).

The other European MVP selections were: Vasileios Charalampopulos (Panathinaikos/Greece), Sergio Garcia (CTEIB/Spain), Stephane Gombauld (INSEP/France), Andrea Latorre (Stella Azzurra/Italy), Luc Loubaki (INSEP/France), Lovro Mazalin (Cibona Zagreb/Croatia), Stefan Nikolic (Red Star/Serbia), Georgios Papagiannis (Peristeri/Greece), and Stefan Peno (FC Barcelona/Serbia).

These players join a prestigious list of former participants. Two of the top five picks in the 2011 NBA Draft, Enes Kanter (Turkey) and Jonas Valančiūnas (Lithuania), participated in the 2008 Jordan Brand Classic International Game in New York City.

Massive congrats to Josh!
