Haris Tournament Returns for 7th Year

Haris Memorial Tournament 2011 Manchester

Haris Memorial Tournament 2011 ManchesterThe line up has been announced for the 7th annual Haris Memorial Tournament that will take place over the coming Christmas period, once again paying tribute to former Manchester Magic player Haris Charalambous.

“The Magic have never been able to win this prestigious Tournament,” said Magic chief Joe Forber. “We have been runners-up on 4 occasions out of the 6 years which the Tournament has been run. Although we will be trying again to lift the trophy at the end of the 2012 Tournament, it will be a very difficult ask.

“It is probably the strongest line-up of teams we have ever had, including BC Kos Sarajevo Bosnia, CB Cornella Spain, Akademie Weser Germany, Switzerland Under 18 Select, Belfast Stars and England Under 17.”

Haris Charalambous, who was a 6’10″ 270lb big man, was England’s 2002 Player of the Year and one of the most promising prospects to emerge from the Manchester Magic programme. After receiving a full NCAA Division 1 scholarship to attend Toledo University, he died suddenly whilst at practice with Toledo in 2006. The Haris Memorial Tournament was set up in his memory in 2006, and has had such prominent teams as Blair Academy Prep School, as well as the national teams of England, Scotland, Romania, and Germany take part.

The teams competing this year are as follows:
