Nice list but do a bit more research find out where the class of “12 barking abbey players went ;)
lol or you could save me a lot of work and just tell me?
Edward Lawrence – Princeton
Damn, I can’t believe I forgot him, even wrote about him signing on the site! Thanks very much, editing in!
Jacob Loveridge – (JUCO) Southern Maine Community College and yeah Edo’s gone to Princeton
Thanks very much, added.
Eoghann Stephens playing NAIA at Madonna University.
Thanks very much, added!
Barry Webster is committed to Maine out of Lee Academy but not yet signed. Might be useful or useless information depending on how you look at it.
Committed for the 2013/14 season though, or this one? He’s not on this season’s roster.
Got in touch with him after this. He’s at a JUCO in Kansas.
Mantas Adomaitis – JUCO Caspar College
Is Mantas British? I wasn’t sure and nor was someone else I asked about it.
You’ve missed every female British baller in the US. If you don’t choose to cover this then thats up to you, but maybe just change the title to The Ultimate List of British Male Basketball Players in US Colleges 2012/13, as the title as it is with no females on is a little disrespectful.
No disrespect intended at all, I just assume a level of assumption on the part of the site’s readers when this is (at this point) a British basketball website that covers only males (90% of the time).
Alex Stewart – Southeastern University (Junior)
Thanks very much – added!
Both Abraham Ekperuoh and Jake Ebbon of County Upper School, Bury St Edmunds have gone to Dawson Community College, Montana. Ollie Barratt (also of County Upper and Bury Bulldogs) has gone to school in Canada, unsure where.
Thanks very much – added both Abraham and Jake. Both freshman right? The school hasn’t updated their roster yet.
If you find out where Ollie Barratt is at let me know!
Barry Webster _ Ex Burleigh Academy Loguhbourough .
Coffeyville Community College ( juco )
This a definite? He redshirting? He’s not listed on their 2013/13 roster:
http://www.coffeyville.edu/campusuite/modules/rosters.cfm?grp_id=7334
Yes, definite. I spoke to him yesterday about it.
Why’d he say he’s not on the roster?
Jake Ebbon – Dawson community College NJCAA D1
Abraham Ekperuoh – Dawson community College NJCAA D1
Added ‘em both, thanks!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CobiPKjA1Ug – Mantas Drungys throwin it down for his college stateside, check it.
Davis Nicholson – (Juco) Southern Maine Community College
Thanks very much, I’ve added him on the list!
Let’s now have the Ultimate List of British Basketball Players in UK Universities 2012/13 Season and acknowledge their decisions to stay in the UK and play top level basketball here
Presumably you mean those that have played at, for example, junior international level who have decided to stay home. However, I don’t necessarily agree that they have stayed home with a view to seriously advancing their basketball careers here, and they certainly won’t be playing top level basketball, i.e. at the same level as say NCAA Division 1 or with a name European club.
The list provided by Sam is not restricted to Junior International level as most of them on the list were NOT part of the National Teams. Let’s have a list of those players who have remained in the UK, perhaps they don’t just play basketball and the education system is superior here. To some players, their education is as important as basketball because long term, how many on either list will have a full time career playing basketball
In that case you will have a list of every player for every University team in the UK!
Lakehead U, not Lakeheart.
My bad, was obviously in a different world at the time lol
Chris Taiwah juco in oklahoma I think
I’ve tracked him down – he’s at Iowa Central Community College. Thanks very much for the heads up, added him in.

How this an Ultimate list when a lot of these players play at juco and low level D1 schools…. You couldve just said list of british players playing in the us…aint nothing ultimate about it unless a lot of em are playing in power confewrence D1 schools
Except that you are using the word “ultimate” as one of its alternative meanings and not as meant in this particular situation – which is entirely correct.
“Ultimate” isn’t used to describe the playing standards, it’s used to describe the list. With it being a fairly extensive list with a lot of time and effort put into it by Sam, I’d say it was worthy of the description ‘Ultimate” :D
aiden saunders (brother of will) Seminole State Juco
Oh wow, I never realised he had a brother! Thanks very much, added him in!
I think the list is fantastic. An average NCAA D3 school could compete with any BBL team so in terms of the standard of play. I think the use of the word ‘Ultimate’ fits perfectly. Admiring players who have been able to go over to the states and compete at any level of College basketball is something that should be admired. I do think that a future list of female players should be added to though and I think generally the website could increase its content of Female Basketball; it only would be a positive step forward in the growth of the website.
Mark Rangeley (JUCO ) is playing for Huddersfield Heat in EB Div 3 North – obviously a quick healer.
Maybe it would be good to include women’s basketball, but the web site was set up purely to promote men’s basketball, as Sam has stated on a number of occasions.
In addition to this, to include women’s basketball would dramatically increase the work and effort that Sam would have to devote to his website, and I suspect that his wuold be an almost impossibility.
Why does someone from women’s basketball not follow Sam’s example and set up a site for their side of the game?
I am a fan of women’s basketball but what I have found out is that the women are not that interested in promoting the game they play. Sam tried at the start and continued till last year but then gave up because and excuse the pun “NOBODY WAS READING THE STUFF” and it takes him just as much time to work on the article.
As soon as he stopped writing about women, then people started to complain about him not covering the women’s game etc. “Ironic”. All this proves is that even with facebook and twitter and all the other social media stuff in the world people still like to see their name appear in news stories on sites like this.
Now I do not always agree with Sam and have been blasted by him for a comment made sometime ago and have no reason to defend him but it is time for fans of women’s basketball to stop bothering him about news, he has offered to help anybody get started, so I suggest if you want a list of female ballers in the states make it easy for him and send him the list. The list of the male players has been a project of three years and even with all the help you can see people are still helping him to complete it.
Apologies if I put you on blast at some point, ‘nobody’, never my intention to offend/upset anyone!
Anyway, I don’t want this post to get sidetracked by comments about the lack of women’s basketball coverage on the site. I hope to address that soon separately anyway :-)
tom wilkinson – sophomore year, Grossmont College (san diego)
Added him in under ‘Other’ as the school is not NCAA, NAIA or JUCO. Thanks very much!
Forgive my ignorance as a novice when it comes to Basketball, a genuine question, where might we expect to see these players when they finish at college? How many have the potential to strengthen the current GB team? How many might go on to play Pro at a high level or in the BBL?
I saw an earlier comment about the low level of the JUCO league, not sure how acurate that comment is but the guy Jackman who is at London this year after coming out of that league is one of the standout players in the BBL so far this year.
It varies drastically. There are a few that will have solid pro careers and be playing GB. Andrew Lawrence is already GB’s starting point guard, Ashley Hamilton, Ovie Soko, Alex Marcotullio and Will Neighbour have all been named in preliminary squads before (of the GB senior team).
A number of other players have played for England U18s/GB U20s/GB Futures so should be on GB’s radar.
Jackman is a slightly different case – he played at NAIA school Oklahoma City because of NCAA eligibility issues, he would’ve been playing NCAA Division 2 if it wasn’t for that.
http://www.hoopsfix.com/2010/11/orlan-jackman-ruled-ineligible/
Not sure that a selection to play for GB necessarily means the player is of a really high standard, especially if from a junior college. I am not suggesting that it is not a compliment to be selected for GB, but one has to take into account just where GB features within world basketball.
What is meant by “solid pro career”? Would suggest this should mean that after basketball is over, the person is set up for his future. As has been said before, all very well playing pro basketball, but what happens afterwards? Or is having a solid pro career sufficient?
It is most likely that of all the players mentioned in the list, 98% will not make a financial career through basketball, and will have to find other means of employment to ensure a future career and pension.
So many young players want to go to the US or elsewhere to live their “dream”, but completely fail to realize, or refuse to realize, that after two or four years in college, that is the end of the road.
Go by all means, but be fully aware that only 5%, if that, make a financial success through the sport.
you seem to forget that many of the players that cross the pond for the education experience with the addition of having a chance to play basketball. If you go to the right school and get a good qualification you can still make a good living outside basketball
I agree. Although many just go because they want to realise their dream.
Be interesting to know just how many DO go primarily to get an education (that they could not get over here?)
Education is a plus for sure. No where else in the world has a greater correlation between academics and athletics as the US do. To be perfectly honest most players do go over to the US for primarily basketball reasons but the fact that they are able to get an education as well is a big bonus. To be able to the play basketball at such a high level plus have the opportunity to get a solid education at the same time; it makes a US college the perfect destination for a young talented student athlete. Also the lessons you learn from playing on a college sports team are lesson that you can take on into further life, whether it be as a father, husband, manager or basketball player; they are lessons that make you a better person not just a better basketball player.
Babatunde (Babs) Somoye – Point Park University.
Thanks very much, added him in there.
Samson olayemi at central Maine community college
Thanks Rob, added him in under ‘Other’ as the school is not NCAA, NAIA or JUCO. Thanks very much!
no worries!
Central Maine Community College is a JUCO. They compete in the same Conference as Southern Maine Community College. The same school as fellow Brits Jacob Loveridge and Davis Nicholson play for.
Ah ok thanks for the info. Couldn’t find anything on the team’s site about the NJCAA. Changed.
Hi Sam.
Not sure if this is any use but my son Matthew Don is attending North Iowa area Community College on a bball scholorship. I believe they play in the NJCAA Division II. http://www.niacctrojans.com/sport/0/1.php
Hi Ian – that’s of much use, thanks very much! I’ve added him in to the list. Appreciated.
That’s great Sam. Thanks
