Check out this ridiculous footage from Venice Beach, another great find from Ball is Life, that shows 6’8″ Kirpatrick McCauley touching 13 feet!
David Astramskas from BIL has done a great post detailing the history of touching the top of the backboard which is definitely worth a read. The only thing I would add to his research is this piece of footage from 2007 – a guy named Doug Thomas doing the same thing:
Still waiting for the day someone actually touches the top of the backboard on film. Who do you think is most likely to do it? Dwight?

Quite a few players have been able to do this.
lol you talk like it’s an everyday thing.
Did I ? :)
this is definitely NOT an everyday thing.
How the… just…. whaaaaatt???
Don’t recall anyone saying it was an everyday thing….but I did see a guy putting a coin on the top of backboard about 30+ years ago. Lew Alcindor (google him) or maybe Wilt cannot remember, It was during half time at a game in Milwaukee. This guy touched a high jump marker, not the board.
Think it was David Thompson (6ft 4in).
