British Basketball League side Guildford Heat have rebranded to Surrey Heat for the coming season.
The rebrand comes with a new logo, new website and new merchandise which is expected to go on sale soon.
“GUILDFORD will still be home to the Heat but the town has been dropped from the basketball club’s name.
The British Basketball League outfit has been re-branded as Surrey Heat, it was announced at their university-owned Surrey Sports Park base on Sunday.
Owner Alison Reeve said the new identity reflected Heat’s geographical reach, in terms of fan base, coaching and community programmes.
“Our BBL franchise stretches way beyond Guildford and includes Woking, Mole Valley, Elmbridge and Reigate as well as Bracknell Forest and Slough,” she explained.
“The club’s new name provides a stronger and more realistic reflection of our impact across the county and beyond.
“Hopefully it will also make it easier for fans to fully identify with the club and will also have wider appeal for sponsors.””

Surrey heat,
london lions
u gotta love the continuity of the BBL
at least surrey are staying at same venue
the rest seem transient, which really helps to foster a community fan base
dont they ever learn?
the Heat have even changed their logo – bet you’re happy if you bought Heat merchandise last year
how long until someone decides to rename their franchise
British Knights?
covers all bases sponsorship-wise!
It also looks like East London Royals have pulled out of the league before they have even dribbled, shot and passed a ball.
Think MK Lions moving to London could have something to do with this.
Why does the BBL just let start-up clubs into the league which have no fan base, history or junior development programs?? Any team wanting to join the BBL should have to go through the league pyramid structure in EB and at have played x amount of seasons in the scottish league.
Sorry that should have been ‘or have played x amount of seasons in the scotland league’
my bad
are you serious?
East london, gone already? is this confirmed?????
i was being pure sarcasm about the state of the BBL, but if East London have gone, then shame on the BBL.
so…how long until clubs start playing?
as chester (apologies Cheshire, as they did it before Surrey -widened their reach…and stil failed)…dont have any players, or even an owner!!
whow many teams, will actually suit up in BBL?
and dare whisper it……LEGACY!!!!
