DVO Not Enough as GB U20s Lose to Belgium

Devon van Oostrum has joined up with the Great Britain Under-20 side in Belgium this week, but his addition wasn’t enough as they fell to Belgium 75-67 on Wednesday night.

The young GB star, a surprise release from Chris Finch’s senior squad last week, has chosen to play with the Under-20s side this summer, making their roster considerably stronger.

Having missed three weeks of training camp, DVO has a lot to catch-up on but will no doubt integrate smoothly with the team that so far has been led by Ali Fraser.

Fraser had 20 points last night to lead GB, as they were coached by assistant coach John Campbell after head coach Dave Smart was out with sickness.

GB Under-20 team manager, Mark Lloyd admitted that the side needs to up their defensive intensity if they are going to succeed in Sofia next week.

“It was a tough game against a well organised and competitive Belgium side who have already beaten a few Division A sides. We need to up our defensive intensity for forty minutes. We played well in the third but need to return to a level that we can play to. We will re-group and raise the bar for tomorrow night.”

GB will look to bounce back tonight as the two sides play the second game of the three-game series.
