England U17s Take 4th in Cherbourg

The new England Under-17 programme returned from Cherbourg with a fourth place finish under their belt in their first ever competitive action.

They finished second in Pool B behind Tunisia going 2-1 in the opening round, before losing in the semi-final to Switzerland. In the third place playoff they managed to push Tunisia to overtime, but ultimately came up short to take fourth place.

Coach Simon Fisher commented:

“The opportunity afforded to this group of players in the inaugural ‘Horizons Programme’ has been beneficial with them playing at a level which allows them to develop their skills. The competitiveness of the majority of the games highlighted individual areas of improvement. The coaching staff were delighted with the players’ efforts culminating in a strong performance against a high quality Tunisian under 18s team. The challenge now for players and staff is to utilise the lessons learnt as a springboard to future progression.”
